Remodel
Project Vision/Planning
• Create a wants & needs chart
• Look at friends' remodeling projects and at
showrooms to see combinations of cabinets, counters,
etc.
• Take pictures. Look through books and magazines
for ideas.
• Think about what you like, and whether it
could work in your home with your budget.
• You may or may not be good at visualizing
what your project will look like. It’s hard!
If you have architectural drawings or 3-d or elevation
drawings, It can help.
• You can always start by sketching your ideas
on graph paper – what you want where, etc. but
you’ll probably need an architect and/or engineer
if: it’s a large project or you are moving walls
or windows, impacting the structure. You can still
call & meet with contractors before hiring an
architect because they may be able to design for you
and they already have relationships with architects
& engineers.
De-clutter
Before Remodeling
If
you are considering a remodel, you need to consider
if and where your existing belongings will fit into
your new space. This is a great time to de-clutter and
get organized. Take the time to do this BEFORE you start
you project to help you save space and money.
There
are countless websites and television shows on organizing
and de-cluttering. The best thing about all these
resources is that they all have a similar process:
Sort everything into Keep, Give Away, or Toss. Try
to let go.......think about the space all your "stuff"
takes up. De-cluttering is a great way to take back
control of your home.
